From Ocean to Outback, discover why Kalgoorlie is a rich town

Found in: News

Australia isn’t just about kangaroos and crystal-clear waters but also a hotspot for mining. This is why FIFO (fly in, fly out) jobs are so common in Western Australia, where workers fly to and from remote mining sites.

One of the sites they are flying in to is called Kalgoorlie, WA’s gold mining hub. This town is rich in minerals like gold, nickel, lithium, and iron ore.

Note: Did you know? Its climate peaks at 46.5°C in summer before cooling by June.

Kalgoorlie is accessible by rail via Transwa Perth trains (which operates twice daily or the weekly Indian Pacific), bus, air, or a drive from Perth via the Great Eastern Highway.

Suggested route: Perth → Esperance → Kalgoorlie Loop. Duration: 7 days.

Places you may want to visit are The Superpit (massive open-cut gold mine), Museum of the Goldfields (home to the state's largest collection of gold bars and nuggets) and Hannan Street (where you can stroll historice buildings and grand old pubs).
